Dinner woes

So, we have this recurring problem at our house.  See, no matter what I make for dinner (unless it comes from McDonalds), the kids will invariably say "I don't like that!"  It doesn't matter if they've eaten it before and liked it.  They don't like anything I make for dinner. Well, I am getting a little tired of making dinner that no one likes, so last night Jon was trying to get the point across that it hurts my feelings when the kids say they don't like what I make.  And what better way to do that than an analogy?  It went something like this: JON:  Do you guys like to draw pictures for Mom and Dad? KIDS:  Yeah! JON:  Well, we like it when you draw us pictures.  How do you think you would feel if you drew us a picture of a horse, and then we said we didn't like it? KIDS:  That would make us sad.  JON:  That's right.  Well, everyday Mommy spends a lot of time making dinner just for you.  How you do think it makes her feel when you say you don't like what she makes?  KIDS:  Sad! At this point, I am thinking the whole exercise has been a success.  They obviously got the point.  Until Adam chimes up.  Apparently, analogies are too advanced for a 3 year old.  All he said was, "Daddy, we don't eat horses for dinner.  That would be yucky."  So all Adam heard was "horse" and "dinner".  Ah, one of those bright moments in parenting!  I'm glad we're succeeding.  Hey, at least Adam knows we don't eat horses!
