Jon and I decided a while ago that we would end our tradition of yearly BIG parties once our kids reach 8. After the 8th birthday blowout (ya know, it's a big year!), they can have parties on the other big years - 12 and 16. So, this was Robbie's first year of low key. We told him we would do something as a family and he could invite a few friends along. And do you know what he picked? Out of everything he could do? Chuck E. Cheese. Seriously?!? We tried really hard to talk him out of it, but no such luck. So, because we love our son, it was off to Chuck E. Cheese with a few friends. It was apparently hard to contain his excitement! (Actually, that's Robbie's "I'm too distracted by everything else to pay attention" face!)
Then we headed home for presents.
And cake. With ice cream in the middle. Which I made all by myself. It may not be nearly as pretty as some of the cakes my amazing friends make, but at least it wasn't falling down like the great Lego cake disaster of 2008! [Big props to Amber for all the helpful hints on her blog about cake making! I totally used all her hints and her yummy buttercream frosting! It was good!]
So, happy birthday "little" buddy. That has to be in quotations, because my little baby is almost as tall as me. He has become such a neat kid. I love his goofiness, his good heart, the distracted smile that he flashes because he is too busy enjoying life, the shy smile he gives when he does something good, his love of his brother and sisters, his love of science and things he can put together and his desire to choose the right. I am so thankful that he is part of our family! Love you Rob!
