. . . I learned by watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Kelsey LOVES Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We watch it every day. Today, as we were watching, I was struck by something. Mickey and 11 of his friends were going on a picnic. Since there were 12 of them, they needed a blanket with 12 squares on it, so they all had a place to sit. Unfortunately, they only brought a blanket with 8 squares. So, they had to find a beach towel with 4 squares to make up the difference. Great math teaching, right?
But, then, the wind came and blew the blanket and the towel away. So, they had to find a trampoline to get them out of the tree so that they could have their picnic. And all I could think the entire time this was going on was - Why don't they just sit on the grass?
So, it's a silly kids show. And they're trying to teach lessons to the kids about problem solving. But I started thinking about my life. I think I make things way more complicated than they need to be. Yes, it would be nice to have a blanket to sit on at a picnic, but it's not essential. I think I spend way too much of my time caught up in the non-essential things in life - like matching Easter outfits, or bows on handouts, or cleaning baseboards that no one looks at. It's more important to enjoy the picnic, rather than worrying about a blanket.
And when life's winds come and blow all your plans away, it's much more important to not worry about those little things. I don't want to get through with this life and have God tell me that I spent way too much time on a trampoline trying to get a blanket and not enough time with my family enjoying the picnic. Life never works out like you plan - whether it's the big or small things. You should find joy in the journey, even when the journey doesn't take you where you plan. I think that is something I need to work on more.
Huh. Who knew Mickey Mouse was that thought provoking?

I just got home and watched that episode... I could not agree more... why could they not just sit on the grass? Maybe someone was allergic to grass? But they are all animals so that is not likely to be it... hum... I think you are right. Too much work. Man!
I'm impressed with the thoughts that were provoked from the Mickey Mouse club. I must admit... I have never seen it, so therefore I must not be enjoying the stimulating learning experiences that others enjoy. Oh, the things that we sacrifice in our lives :). Thanks for the deep thoughts. That is always important to step back and realize!
Dude, this is a great insight. This sounds like a talk at church. :)
Love ya sis... even with your craziness!
Wow - you are amazing! I tend to take things at face value, and don't know if I would have come up with that insight. Maybe I need to watch more kid shows! (:
Love these thoughts...I totally needed to hear that. <3
