If you've talked to me in the last two months, you are probably aware that I have been excited for school to start. Heck, I think most of the checkers at Wal-Mart are aware. I'm pretty vocal about it, but not for the reason you may think. I really enjoyed my summer with my kids, but I have been looking forward to going from four kids . . . to ONE.
I haven't had only one kid at home since December 2001. That's a long time. I made lists and lists of projects and cleaning and hobbies that I wanted to catch up on. And Kelsey and I are going to do all sorts of fun stuff that's a lot harder with 4 kids. I mean, after all, with only one kid, I will have oodles and oodles of time, right?
Nearly two weeks in to school, Robbie's quilt is still sitting where it was before school started. My garden box has even taller weeds. The carpet is covered in a fine layer of brown dog hair. (Which really grosses me out!) My scrapbooking stuff is gathering dust on the shelf. Where is all my magical, extra time? I can't blame it on Kelsey. She's the best kid ever. I thought I would have to entertain her, but she disappears for hours at a time and I have to check and make sure she's not bleeding to death on the floor.
The silly thing is, I know exactly why I don't have time. I've found other things that I've always wanted to do to fill up the extra minutes. PTA. Genealogy. Working out. And I have found the time to do more stuff with Kelsey - we've played at the mall, and read stories, and gone to the library, and had treats. I really love it. I suppose my projects will just have to wait. And I can have hobbies when I'm 80 and don't have kids at a school to join PTA, or computers are just too darn complex to do genealogy, or my arthritic knees won't allow me to go to the gym. (Wait, can that last one be now?!?) I just hope Robbie doesn't mind waiting until he's 56 to get his baseball quilt!

Ha! It's so true. I remember the year both my boys were in school, and I thought I would have *so* much time on my hands with NO kids home!
Of course, I'm the one who volunteered up at the school . . . and took college classes . . . and took on various other things that ate up my time. I guess the thought of sitting around by myself at home just didn't appeal to me! I figure I might finish my cross-stitch project that I started before Spencer was born by the time I'm 50. Or so. (:
I know, right?!? When all my kids were in school...I was like...phew! Now I can get that basket weaved and afgan stiched and finally...finally get around to cleaning the lint out of my bellybutton. Seriously Greeb...take a nap or something. :)
Just roll with it. Do what feels right at the time. You are never again going to have the time with just your youngest at home. Play and laugh and have joy! Finding joy is the best especially if you can share it with others and it totally sounds like you are because that joy will rub off on family and friends! Oh I love you girl. You inspire me to have more fun!
This totally made me laugh.... how true! Carpe Diem my sweet daughter.. you will only have these days for alittle while!
