I have wanted an Easy Bake Oven since I was a little girl. Somehow, the idea of being able to cook something by the power of a lightbulb was exciting. So, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when Emily asked for an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas. I was going to get to live vicariously through my daughter!
Jon doesn't understand this fascination. He just keeps pointing out that we have a real oven that makes real food. On Saturday night, Emily wanted to make a treat for everyone in the family with her Easy Bake Oven. 45 minutes later, we had managed to produce 6 quarter size cookies (with frosting!) that were roughly as hard as, well, a rock. And at $7.00 for the bag that makes 12 cookies, they were a bargain at only $.58 a cookie! I think I am beginning to see Jon's point.
I could have made real cookies in less time, they would have cost less, and they would have tasted better. Oh, to be a child again and not care about things like taste and cost! For Emily, the fascination was in the process, and probably had something to do with the fact that the oven is pink. Oh well. The kids didn't seem to care how long it took or how bad the cookies tasted. As for me, I think I'll stick with my real oven and real cookies!
